Married 25-Oct-1892
Frederick was a dear friend of Reuben Elizabeth Jennings. When Reuben was dying of typhoid fever in 1890 Frederick promised him that he would look after his young wife and five daughters after his death. Two years later, Frederick and Elizabeth decided to marry. They married in the Registrar's Office of West Ham, London. Frederick was a good father and never made any difference between his own children and those of Elizabeth's marriage to Reuben. Frederick and Elizabeth named their four daughters after flowers. Their son narrowly escaped this cruel fate.|
Husband:
Frederick Dawson Grimwood Born: 1868 Died: 7-Nov-1934 Father: Harry William Grimwood Mother: Elizabeth Rose Dawson Other Spouses: Clara F.E. Chapman Occupation: Frederick Grimwood was first a licenced Victualler (someone licensed to sell alcoholic drink), later a domestic gardener, and then a 'Typewriter Ribbon Machine Operator'. It appears that Frederick and Elizabeth Grimwood had no financial difficulties as they appear to have received payments for licence fees for a patent that Reuben, Elizabeth's first husband, had developed with a partner. During the first years of their marriage the financial situation was such that it was not necessary for Frederick to earn money. However in 1906 he started work as a gardener for Mr Robert Clarke, the owner of "Oakhurst", a mansion built in Walthamstow in 1750. Mr Clarke had some enlargements made to the house on St Peters Place for Frederick, including a new room large enough for the whole family to be seated around one big table. During the first World War Frederick started to work for the "Caribonum Company", a typewriter factory. His daughter Olive (our Auntie Olive) later also worked at this factory. |
