Died: 21-Apr-1998   Art died of alcohol-related problems & complications from Alzheimer.  He lied buried with his wife Phillis in South San Francisco, California.

Occupation: Art made his career as an engineer for the Southern Pacific Railroad for 42 years.  He established what became a state law to stop before, not on, a railroad track if there is no room on the other side.

Comments: Art's middle name, Nielson, is the married name of his grandmother from Norway.  His mother was a concert pianist and piano teacher. Art won medals in several school sports.   During World War II, he served in the Philippines and New Guinea.

Phillis and Art married in Sacramento.  Art was in the army at the time and went absent without leave for the wedding ceremony.  The religion they followed was that of the Christian Science Church.
