Born: 1650
Died: 31-May-1680

Comments: Neandertal Man was named after Joachim Neander.  Joachim was a Minister of the early Protestant Church in the Netherlands and in Germany.  He used to spend time in a local cave to write hymns, hold discussion groups, and study his Bible.  After his death, the cave was named after him, Neander-grot, and the entire valley came to be known as Neander valley, or Neanderthal in German.  The first prehistoric Neandertal bones were found in this valley and were named after the valley.
