Jacobus Johannes was the only son of Jam Dam Dirks (later Backer Dirks) to retain the name Backer Dirks. His siblings reverted to Dirks. Had Jacobus Johannes not kept Backer Dirks as his surname then there would not have been any Backer Dirks' in the world today.
